Health Risk Assessments And Women’s Health

Are your patients aware of their health risks? A health risk assessment can bring to light different factors that can affect your patient’s life positively or negatively.

Women’s unique health needs, in particular, can benefit greatly from AvMed’s Personal Health Assessment (PHA). The online questionnaire evaluates several areas of health such as stress levels, nutrition, physical activity, sleep patterns, tobacco usage and overall health.

Here are some reasons you should encourage patients to fill out a PHA if they haven’t done so already:

They can improve care. A PHA can identify your patients’ risk factors (e.g., family history, lifestyle habits) and provide them with a snapshot of their current health status. Knowing what they’re at a higher risk for can encourage them to talk about the results with you, so you can tailor preventive care such as screenings accordingly. For example, if your patient has a family history of breast cancer, you may want to screen her more frequently.

They can encourage healthier habits. PHAs can help make your patient aware of his or her lifestyle habits … both good and bad. Smoking, alcohol use and stress are just a few of the things that can have a huge impact on one’s personal health. Your patients may not even be aware of how much they are smoking, drinking or performing other actions that impact their health. By shining light on your patient’s lifestyle, a PHA can inspire positive change and encourage Members to lead a WELLfluent™ life.

They are convenient. Your patients are busy people. They may have jobs, children and other responsibilities that can take attention away from their personal health. AvMed’s PHA is concise and can be completed in just 10 to 20 minutes.

Patients must have an AvMed.org account to fill out a PHA. To register, patients can go to AvMed.org and click REGISTER under the LOGIN tab. For more information about the Personal Health Assessment, visit the official AvMed page.
